As a member of ASU Students for the New Urbanism, I helped to bring tactical urbanism to a few of Phoenix’s major edge cities. The guerilla wayfinding signs located in each city’s downtown region helps pedestrians and bikers to seek out public spaces like museums, parks, and libraries. The signs include directional arrows, estimated walk time and milage, as well as QR codes linking to the general map of downtown destinations. After months of seeking public approval, we installed the signs in their respective downtown areas in late April of 2013.

After positive public reception, both municipalities requested that the signs remain up indefinitely. Additional municipalities requested our services in designing and implementing permanent wayfinding in their communities.

"God made us walking animals—pedestrians. As a fish needs to swim, a bird to fly, a deer to run, we need to walk, not in order to survive, but to be happy"
- Enrique Peñalosa, 2000
